New Lyrics - Deceiver

This is a first draft of some lyrics that I wrote in church last Sunday (instead of paying attention to the message). Some words just flew out at me, and I knew I had to use them. Even though the people who spoke them didn't put any special emphasis on them they stood out to me and this is what I came up with. It will change I am sure, especially if/when Tommy gets ahold of it.

Deceiver

You do not do the work
You do not care to believe
Transgress against the world
Only take what you need

Proclaim to serve
Reaffirm your path
Undermine with apathy
Burn down the truth
Burn it down Burn it down
Burn it all down

You create your own view
Based on real falsehoods
Deceive your own mind
Destroy the greater good

You keep your ears closed
Don't listen to the voice
Knowledge becomes distorted
You've made your choice

The Urban Legend Of The Tulsa Center Of The Universe

For over a year and a half now I had heard about the Tulsa Center Of The Universe, which is an acoustical anomaly in downtown Tulsa. There is a spot where there are stones in a small circle surrounded by a larger circle. According to what I have been told and read online if you were to stand in the smaller circle and speak anybody standing outside the larger circle would not be able to hear you, no matter how loud you raised your voice. Also, if the person standing outside the larger circle were to speak it would be distorted and you would be unable to understand them. That was the rumor at least.

Last weekend my wife, son and mother-in-law and I were in that general area so I decided that the time had come for me to find out what the truth was. As it turned out the truth was something altogether different. I first told my family to see if they could hear me and then I stood inside the small circle and began to speak. Immediately I did notice that my voice had a strange echo but much to my dismay they understood me clearly. I then told them to talk to me and I encountered the same from them, I could clearly understand everything they said even with the echo. They all took turns standing in the small circle and the result was the same.

I couldn't help but feel somewhat disappointed. Perhaps I had built the whole thing up in my head and was expecting this marvelous, mystical experience that was unexplainable even to science. Instead I found that while there is an acoustical anomaly it is minor at best. Still, it was fun to do as a family and at least now I know the truth. If I ever have the chance to investigate another urban legend I know I'll do it in a heartbeat however perhaps I'll be able to lower my expectations to a more realistic level. Nah, probably not.

New Lyrics Or Poem Or Whatever You Want To Call It

Something new, make of this what you will:

In need of serious stress relief
Hope it comes soon
Can't wait for the new dance
Set to my own tune
Walk away in confusion
Nothing to see here
Now dash away rapidly
Be alone with your fear

The best kept secret
Is the source of course
Of all that's wrong
My best is never enough
Come see the selfish one
His dreams come undone
What does the future hold
Just more of the same

New Lyrics - Don't Want To Know

Here are some new lyrics that came to me yesterday. I was watching a documentary about punk music in Africa called, wait for it, Punk In Africa. It's pretty good, very interesting I must say. Anyway, it got me thinking and I guess that's a good thing. This isn't about anybody in particular, just an idea really. Of course it will probably change in the future but I wish I knew someone who could put it with some punk music then we could see what's what.

Don't Want To Know

Don't want to know what you're feeling
Don't want to know if you're okay
Don't want to know what your plans are
Don't want to give you the time of day

History doomed to repeat itself
I'm all alone again
You want to keep me hanging around
On the outside looking in

Don't want to be with you
Don't want to be alone

Don't need to think about the future
Don't need to think about the past
Don't need to think about your feelings
Don't need to waste my time with you

History doomed to repeat itself
Why can't you let me be
You want to keep me hanging around
You should be dead to me

Don't want to be with you
Don't want to be alone

The Unsafe Streets

While on my way home tonight I noticed that the car ahead of me was having a hard time staying in it's lane and was sharply jerking to and fro. My first thought was that the driver was more than likely texting or doing something else just as stupid. That was until he blew through the first stop light without even slowing down. Then I began to think that perhaps he was more likely drunk. One mile later he blew through the second red light and I decided to do something about it so I called 911.

By the time I was able to speak to the police he had turned into the parking lot of what I assume was his apartment complex and proceeded to park. As I described what had been happening to the voice on the other end of the phone this unknown man got out of the car and started walking straight towards me. At that point I was advised to move away so that there wouldn't be any kind of confrontation between us. Well duh.

I had my truck in gear and pulled behind the next set of apartments but it was a dead end. I was going to have to turn around and go out the way I had come in. If he was waiting for me that aforementioned confrontation just might occur. Fortunately he was already on his way to his apartment and I used the opportunity pull over behind his vehicle and give a full description of it as well as the license plate number to the 911 operator.

Since he was out of the vehicle and had not been seen committing his violations by a police officer I was informed that there was nothing that could be done. Still the patrol units in the area would be given the information in case he decided to go out again. Yeah, and monkeys might fly out of my butt. Any other time and I'd have seen cops all over the place. Face it, he got away whatever he was doing.

I console myself that at least I tried, I made an effort for whatever good that did. The fact is that drunks are going to do what they want no matter what the laws say. I just hope I can stay out of their way.

Ten For Tuesday Episode 50: 1st Episode Of The New Year

Well, I had every intention of uploading this episode yesterday on my dinner break at work but as you can tell, that didn't happen. Then after leaving there at midnight I thought I would do it when I got home but once again, that didn't happen. Sometimes things happen that are out of our control and we just have to make the best of the situation. That leads us to today. For the time being, I am going to move to a new schedule and put these episodes out every two weeks with the idea that I may still do extra shows for events like a road trip to a concert. We'll see how that goes. Now, onto the music.

Paws - Homecoming
Alejandro Escovedo - Chelsea Hotel '78
Will Hoge - A Different Man
Grupo Fantasma - Utility Rock
The Slackers - For The Money
NO - What's Your Name
Vaadat Charigim - Haolam Avad Mizman
Bodeans - First Time
Red Dye No. 5 - Pigeon
The Dead 60s - Riot Radio

Ten For Tuesday is a podcast dedicated to playing the music I couldn’t find anywhere else. The music I like varies from style to style, genre to genre and era to era. You will hear punk, ska, rock, Americana, metal, country, rockabilly and more from all over the world. It doesn’t matter if it’s a major label or indie as long as I like it then it gets played. The motto is Less Talk More Music which means you won’t hear me waxing poetic for fifteen minutes between songs. At TFT it’s all about the music…..and me of course.

No New Ten For Tuesday Episode This Week

It may (or not) have been noticed that there was no episode of Ten For Tuesday yesterday. I had the music all ready but the only time available to record my part, put it all together and upload it would have been my dinner break. That would have had me rushing things and as I have learned from the last year when I do that the quality of what I want to say suffers. So instead of putting out an inferior product I decided to wait a week and do it right. This way I can also work on my other podcast, the woefully ignored and almost forgotten notmovingpictures. There are a couple of episodes in need of work in the worst way there.

For this new year I've decided to put out new episodes every two weeks unless the mood strikes me for something extra, such as a road trip. This way I'll be able to do more with notmovingpictures as well as working on some of my writing ideas. To that end I've signed up for an online creative writing class in the hopes that it will stimulate me, well, creatively. I have some movie scripts (really about nine or ten) that I want to work on as well as various short stories and things for the blog. We'll see what comes of it. Look for some new Sig Tau stories as well. Since it's the first day of the new year the future looks bright but I won't be wearing shades. I want my eyes wide open for what will come.
